About this site

This site has been created by Alain IZ6BYY and Claudio IK1SLD in late 2001.
Not affiliated to any official body or organization, thanks to the contribution of its subscribers, the site provides realtime information about the International Space Station.

Since the Space Station is equipped with an Amateur Radio Station that allows interested astronauts to communicate with folks on the ground, most of the content on this website is related to Amateur Radio activities.

Although not every astronaut onboard the ISS is interested into Amater Radio, some of them are especially enthusiastic about it.
One of them was Valeri Korzun who sent us a picture in Semptember 2002 while serving as the Expedition 5 ISS Commander.
He also added a brief note:

CLAUDIO, I THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA TO ORGANIZE ISS FAN CLUB. THIS IS COMMON INTEREST FOR ALL MEMBERS, NEW CONTACTS, NEW PEOPLE AND A LOT OF COMM WITH ISS. FAN CLUB WILL SUPPORT CREW ON ISS AND IT'S VERY IMPORTEN FOR ASTRONAUTS AND MEMBERS OF CLUB. THIS IS GOOD CHANS TO GIVE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT FLIGHT. MANY THANKS TO YOU, ALAIN AND PEOPLE WHO PROVIDE THIS IDEA. 73. VALERY

In 2006 Bill McArthur, Expedition 12 Commander, expressed the wish to contact via Amateur Radio as many different places as possibile. In order to make this possible the Iss Fan Club helped commander McArthur scheduling contacts with remote islands, small countries and other places normally not easily available on the Radio.
After the record was set Commander McArthur recognized the efforts of this Website in a public letter sent from space.
