Repeater

Hi, I am beginner in communications across ISS, and I dont know if actually is possible to use the repeaters on board on only communications with the people inside the ISS.

Best regards and I apologize for my bad english,

iSS Repeater

Hi Gerardo,To answer your question. The last time i worked the iss repeater was when mission specialist & commander mike fincke was on expedition 18 in 2008/2009.
As far as i can gather he was the only one who knew how to set it up.
However you cannot talk the the crew even if the repeater is active, just the radio hams in the downlink footprint.

Thankfully on the next space shuttle mission STS134 endeavour to the iss in april, mike will be aboard but im not sure how long this time he will be staying???Hope he will have some free time to reconnect the repeater.Frankly im getting bored with packet.

The only disadvantage of running the repeater on the iSS -- is the huge amount of ground stations (radio hams) saturating the uplink frequency.so in the end you have 100's of stations calling CQ-iSS repeater ,Therefore it becomes more and more unusable.unless your QTH is like jodrell bank.

Best regards to you. de M0ODV Robert.

Thanks

Ok, Robert, thanks for your info; then, only it is possible to listen to the ISS speaking with colleges, etc, no?? Besides de Packet or APRS, of course.

Best regards, my friend,

Talking to the crew

A correction to the earlier post. When the repeater is active (rarely) then operators can also talk to the crew IF the crew turns up the volume on the radio and uses the mic.

Operators can also talk to the crew when they activate the radio for use on the general contact settings.

Both of these instances require the crew to be interested and available to talk to operators on the ground.

Talking to the crew

How very interesting.

I have to look for some recordings of when the repeater was active and the crew talking at the same time.
