Simplex operation

I was just notified by one of our local hams that the ISS was operating on the uplink frequency in the simplex mode. In other words, they were transmitting on 144.49MHZ as well as listening on 144.49MHZ. This is a great disappointment to all of us trying to contact the ISS. I wonder if there is any way to get the message back to them about checking the offset ? ? ? The pass over Washington state at 0030Z today was operating in this simplex mode.

Simplex operation

FWIW, on 29-11-2003 (PST) I monitored 3 passes listening on both uplink and downlink freqs and only heard other hams calling on uplink. Doesn´t everybody monitor uplink so you don´t step on anybody else???

Simplex operation

While monitoring the uplink frequency is a noble thought, considering the size of the ISS footprint, you would probably not hear many of the stations calling. Unfortunately, this is one type of operation where pile-ups are going to occur no matter how well you try and avoid them.
